Call Recording and Editing
Call Recording And Editing
¶
One of Solo's killer features is that it automatically records each on-air call for future editing and playback. Once a call has left the device, an editor icon appears on it, as shown below.
Selecting the record icon opens the record window (which follows) which gives you the opportunity to edit the call and save it to file for future use. Additionally you are able to isolate each side of the call if required.
Recordings are now also accessible by right-clicking the recording icon in the Call Log for the relevant record. This will cause a list of related recording to appear from which you can select for editing.
As you can see in the screenshot below, there are several recordings for this particular call. This is due to the fact that the call was moved to different devices during the duration of the call - this causes a new recording to be registered against the call.
Whereas older versions of Solo used to only record the most recent call, the newer versions actually record every call that comes through the system, after which purges can be run to free storage space.
The Editing Toolbar
¶
The Playback button allows you to select the channel through which the audio wave shown will be played back.
The Play/Pause/Stop buttons control the playback of the audio through the channel set by the Playback button.
The next 3 controls, Full, Zoom Out and Zoom In, dictate how much of the wavefrom can be seen in the window at once.
The Save button allows you to save the current wavefrom, whether it has been edited or not.
The Cut and Paste buttons allow you to copy and move parts of the waveform.
Clicking the Levels button expands a list of possible actions that can be forformed on the waveform itself.
The next section of this toolbar deals with adding, selecting, and removing markers. Click "Marker" to add a marker. To select a marker, use the dropdown to select currently set markers. And to remove a marker, use the "Remove" button.
As well as using markers to make playback easier, a click and drag of the mouse cursor will allow you to highlight different parts of the waveform for editing.
Finally, there is the option to undo the last actoin you peformed on the waveform, or, if you are finished with the audio in question (and have saved a copy elsewhere if required), you can close the editor window. If you haven't saved, you will now be asked if you would like to before the editor closes.
