Any devices that are used by an ASIO driver will no longer work as wave devices when used by ASIO… unfortunately there is no way to distinguish the wave version of a device from its ASIO version, so both may be listed as available inputs or outputs in Solo. Do not try and use the wave version of devices which are available through ASIO as they cannot be opened whilst in exclusive use by ASIO.
Many broadcast quality soundcards include ASIO drivers – ensure that the ASIO drivers are installed rather than WAVE or WDM drivers where available to ensure optimum performance.
USING ASIO WITH STANDARD SOUNDCARDS
ASIO4ALL is a free ASIO driver for WDM audio devices. It uses Kernel-Streaming to talk to the soundcard and can result in improved performance (lower latency) even for soundcards which do not natively support ASIO.
